True North Terms of Service
Effective date: [EFFECTIVE DATE]
Provider: True North (truenorthfamily.ai), operated by [LEGAL ENTITY, JURISDICTION] (“we”, “us”)
Contact: [CONTACT EMAIL]
These terms are a contract between you and us. By creating an account or using True North,
you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
1. What True North is
True North is a multi-model AI chat service. You can chat with a single AI model, send one
prompt to several models at once and compare their answers, generate images, save answers as
“gems”, and set up supervised profiles for your children with content filters and
parental controls.
AI answers can be wrong. The responses you see are generated by third-party
AI models. They can be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, biased, or simply made up β even when
they sound confident. Do not rely on True North for medical, legal, financial, or other
professional decisions. Always verify important information with a qualified
professional. AI-generated content does not represent our views.
2. Beta status
True North is currently in beta.
[BETA TERMS β operator to confirm: current beta/testing status of billing, any free-credit policy, whether beta data may be reset, and any beta-specific limitations to disclose.]
Features may change, break, or be removed, and we may impose or change usage limits while in
beta.
3. Your account
- You must be able to form a binding contract to create an account (in most places, this
means being an adult or having a parent/guardian agree to these terms for you).
- One account per person. Keep your credentials confidential; you are
responsible for activity under your account.
- Sign-in is handled by our identity provider (id.artilect.us) or Sign in with Apple. Keep
the email on your account current β it's how we reach you.
- Child profiles. Parents may create child profiles under their account.
The parent, not the child, is our customer: the parent accepts these terms on the child's
behalf, is responsible for the child's use of the service, configures the safety settings,
and pays for the child's usage. Content filters are a safety aid, not a guarantee β no
filter is perfect, and supervision remains the parent's responsibility.
4. Acceptable use
Don't use True North to:
- do anything illegal, or generate content that is illegal where you or we are located;
- create or share content that sexually exploits or endangers minors (zero tolerance β we
will report where required by law);
- harass, threaten, or defraud others;
- deliberately circumvent content filters, parental controls, or other technical safety
measures, or access another user's or another family member's data (a child's ordinary
conversation β including a filter blocking a question β is not a violation; this rule
targets deliberate circumvention, e.g. exploiting bugs or tampering with another account's
settings);
- probe, overload, or attack the service, or use it to build spam/abuse automation;
- abuse shared model access β e.g. reselling access, scripting bulk requests, or evading
the rate and spend limits we enforce.
We enforce rate limits and spending caps (per user, per family, and
service-wide) to keep the service fair and affordable. We may throttle, suspend, or terminate
accounts that violate this section.
5. Billing
- True North uses a credit balance: you top up your balance and usage is
deducted from it based on the models you use. Prices shown in the app include our margin
over the model providers' prices.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We don't store your full card
details.
- Usage by a child profile is deducted from the parent's balance.
- Costs shown before you run a request (for example, estimates for multi-model rounds) are
estimates; the final cost depends on the models' actual usage.
- [BETA TERMS β operator to confirm refund policy for unused credits, whether credits expire, and treatment of promotional/free credits.]
6. Your content and ours
- You own your content. Prompts you write, files you upload, and the
outputs you receive belong to you (to the extent the law recognizes ownership in AI
outputs β this area of law is unsettled).
- License to us. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive license to host,
store, process, transmit, and display your content solely to operate the service
for you β that is: sending your prompts and attachments to the AI model providers
that generate your responses, extracting memories for your account, applying safety
filters, and showing content you chose to share via a share link. This license ends when
you delete the content or your account, except as needed for backups, legal compliance, or
content you shared publicly while the share was active.
- We do not use your content to train AI models. Third-party model
providers process your prompts under their own terms (see the
Privacy Policy).
- Our stuff. The True North software, design, and branding are ours or our
licensors'. These terms don't give you any rights to them beyond using the service.
7. Sharing
Share links you create for chats or gems are public: anyone with the link can view the
content. You are responsible for what you share. We may remove shared content that violates
section 4.
8. Availability β no SLA
True North is provided “as is” and “as available”,
without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose.
This is a beta service: we do not promise uptime, and we may modify or discontinue features (or
the service) with reasonable notice where practicable. Export your data regularly if it matters
to you.
9. Termination
- By you: stop using the service, or delete your account (see the
Privacy Policy for how).
- By us: we may suspend or terminate your account for violation of these
terms, for legal reasons, for non-payment, or if we discontinue the service. Where
reasonable, we'll give you notice and a chance to export your data; for serious violations
(e.g. section 4's zero-tolerance items) we may terminate immediately.
- Sections that by their nature should survive termination (content license wind-down,
liability limits, governing law) survive.
10. Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for decisions you make in reliance on AI-generated
content (see section 1).
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages,
or for lost profits, data, or goodwill.
- Our total liability for all claims arising out of the service is capped at the greater
of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or
[LIABILITY FLOOR, e.g. β¬50].
- Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law (e.g. for gross
negligence, willful misconduct, or death/personal injury where applicable), or limits
consumers' statutory rights.
11. Indemnity
If your use of the service in violation of these terms causes a third-party claim against
us, you agree to cover the reasonable costs and damages that result, to the extent permitted by
the consumer-protection law that applies to you.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For material changes we will notify you in the app or by email at
least 14 days before they take effect. If you don't agree with a change, stop
using the service and delete your account before the change takes effect; continued use after
that date means you accept the new terms.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of
[GOVERNING LAW JURISDICTION β PLACEHOLDER],
and disputes will be resolved in the courts of
[VENUE β PLACEHOLDER], without prejudice to
mandatory consumer-protection rules and forum rights in your country of residence.
